A curriculum map is a tool used to record curriculum-related inter-connections. Many programs use mapping of the program to index or diagram a curriculum to identify and address academic gaps, redundancies, and misalignments. Curriculum mapping of specific areas of the curriculum, such as management of patients with complex medical needs, can assist faculty in identification of the increasing level of complexity and robustness of classroom, simulation and IPE experiences and address the barriers to implementation of knowledge related to management of patients. Curriculum maps allow faculty to better see the big picture and create classroom, simulation, and IPE activities that address management of the patient with complex medical needs.
